Brisa: 50 years shortening distances

Portugal may be small at just 560 km long, but when Brisa was founded in 1972, traveling from Lisbon to the north or south was nearly a full-day journey, as there were only 44 km of motorway. Today, Brisa manages over 1,500 km of the country’s 3,000 km of motorways, making it the largest concessionaire and a company that has completely revolutionized road mobility in Portugal. Beyond being the largest concessionaire, Brisa is also a European leader in mobility platforms, recognized as the most sustainable motorway operator by GRESB. With innovations like Via Verde, Brisa has transformed toll and parking payments, offering seamless, ticketless travel for 85% of Portugal’s motorway users.

"The Sensei autonomous experience is best understood by seeing and testing it first-hand. Only then can one truly appreciate the seamless integration and innovative solutions that Sensei brings to the table."

From seamless mobility to seamless shopping

Brisa already offered a frictionless mobility experience but wanted to go the extra mile by providing the same seamless shopping experience at its motorway service stations. The goal? A real grab-and-go experience—always on the move, with no waiting lines and no time wasted. That's where Sensei stepped in, with autonomous Cabinets at five key locations and a Pod at the Pombal service station, under the Colibri brand. Now, travelers can enjoy quick, self-service shopping for snacks, drinks, and more, ensuring a convenient, efficient experience for those always on the road.

Paving the way for roadside convenience

Available 24/7, Sensei Cabinets provide a quick and easy solution for travelers on the go. Whether grabbing a bottle of water on a hot day, a sandwich for lunch, or a snack for the road, these options cater to every need in just a few seconds. At the Pombal service station, a Sensei Pod offers an extended range of products, including a coffee machine, fresh juice, snacks, and cold drinks. Travelers can easily tap their card, select their items, and continue their journey, ensuring a smooth, convenient experience.

Driven by greater efficiency

Brisa’s journey towards efficiency has just got better too. The autonomous Cabinets and Pod also offer one of Sensei’s most distinctive technological features: real-time stock. That means Colibri workers receive on-the-fly updates on inventory levels and alerts for replenishment needs, so customers will never find an empty shelf. And Sensei's network-friendly operation also means Brisa can centrally manage all of its ten Cabinets and Pod on a single platform! The road to the future of service stations starts here.

"Working with Sensei has been a very positive experience. Their technology enables us to focus on what matters most—serving our customers quickly and efficiently, especially during peak times. The Colibri Express rollout has been smooth and seamless, with minimal friction, making the adoption process straightforward and stress-free."
